Abstract:

The species of the Scarabaeinae subfamily, commonly known as true dung beetles, are a remarkably discussed group of insects both in terms of their numbers as well as ecological functions. Despite the prosperous rate of systemic research on insect gut microbes, dung beetle resident microbes remain broadly un reviewed. The dung beetle is an inhabitant of the dirty environment like mammal's feces. Insect gut microbes get benefits from a fortified and nutrient-rich environment and assist the host with digestion and nutrition process. Scarab beetle gut acts as a fermentation chamber due to the secretion of many valuable and unique enzymes. In addition, gut microbes play a major role in immunity by administering some signals for operation and development of the host immune system. The focus of this review was the culturable and non-culturable microbial diversity and its role in metabolism, as well as recent advances in the knowledge of microbial products on nutrient recycling and host immunity with a focus on microbial components.
